Liposculpture in the UK

Fat Removal

Liposculpture is probably the nicest way to say fat removal. Liposuction, lipoplasty and lipolysis are all terms used, but liposculpture does sound a little more delicate. Essentially lipo is when fat is literally sucked out from beneath your skin. Surprisingly, it cannot remove cellulite and is not to be seen as a replacement for a healthy diet and exercise, but it is an effective procedure to remove excess fat around the tummy, hips, bottom, upper arms and thighs. Once the fat cells are removed they do not reappear as these cells stop being produced after puberty.

Process

You will be sedated, but not knocked out totally. Then a numbing of the area with local anaesthetic will mean you feel no pain. Small cuts into the skin are made into areas that both you and the surgeon will have agreed on prior to surgery. These cuts are around 4mm in size so are small but will still show a small scar afterwards. A tube is inserted into these small cuts and the fat is literally vacuumed out. Depending on the areas to be covered and the amount of fat to be removed will determine how long your procedure is expected to last. Generally speaking it is around two hours per treatment.

After Effects

Everyone is different but most would suffer from localised swelling and bruising. You will feel uncomfortable and sore and the small cuts may be sore too. There are risks associated with anaesthetic procedures and not related purely to liposculpture. Some people have reported feelings of heightened skin sensation and/or numbness in the area post procedure. Sometimes infections can occur as can shock and seizures. However, the procedure in itself is not complicated and a day staying over in the clinic is all that will be usually required. Your body will feel a little beaten and so a period of rest at home is needed. A tight compression bandage will be worn to ensure the skin returns to its natural shape.

Costs and where to go

The price tag will depend entirely upon the amount of areas you would like treated. When you start to do your research don't be guided purely by the money. It is far better to pay a little more and use a surgeon that is accredited by The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons or an organisation that is maintained by the General Medical Council. Using a reputable clinic comparison website can also be a quick, simple and hassle-free means of generating a list of potential clinics within your area who will be tailored towards your exact requirements.
